Blog 2(Specificity)

The following scene is from the movie The Great Gatsby. In the story, a man named Gatsby is in love with a girl name Daisy. However, while Gatsby was off in  the war during the time, Daisy fell in love with Tom Buchanan-- an abusive and careless man. Tom is noted to have an affair during the marriage that Daisy is full aware of, so obviously their marriage has its problems. When Gatsby comes back to win Daisy back, he is now a rich and well-known man who Daisy is unable to resist. This scene shows the love they really have for one another.

 

This scene does a beautiful job of showing Daisy's fascination with Gatsby's life. The scene points out a drastic difference between the Daisy that is with Tom--tired and sad, and the Daisy that is with Gatsby who is happy and loving. The scene portrays her in a fantastic way, almost in the exact way that Gatsby himself views her. The scene portrays her as beautiful, stunning, glamorous, and mysterious, which are all of the qualities Gatsby who define Daisy as. The kid-like action of the throwing of the shirts is a unique way to show the many riches of Gatsby's new life and the one Daisy dreams to live. The many shirts swarming her represents the riches and beauty she wishes to be swarmed in herself. The detail of the origin and fabric of the shirts are so vivid and descriptive that the reader begins to fall into and believe in Gatsby's story of rags to riches. The description of the shirts makes him appear as though he has everything from everywhere. Daisy chocked up in the end, struggling to find the words for her tears shows the reader that Daisy, for many years now, has gone through life without explaining herself and has a lot to say but doesn't know how to say it.  It also shows her doubt in the imagination of herself and Gatsby together.
